The Long Paddock Touring Route

If you're like us, when you're on holidays you love to jump in the car and do a couple of short day trips to explore the wider region.

The Long Paddock Touring Route is definitely one to add to the 'bucket list' when visiting us.

The modern Cobb Highway follows part of the great network of stock routes that became known as “The Long Paddock” - a historic web of tracks and trails linking stock-breeding areas of inland NSW and Queensland with emerging markets in Victoria. It also provided an escape route from drought when the seasons failed. The route is actually still a working stock route which provides us with a link to times and landscapes that are long since altered.

Be sure to wave to the drovers as they slowly move their stock on horseback along the roads. Just note, stock have right of way so make sure you slow down and let the cattle pass by.

The Long Paddock road trip follows the historic Cobb stock route, from Echuca – Moama on the mighty Murray River to iconic country towns like our very own, Deniliquin. The drive features public artworks and information boards along the way, bringing the history and heritage of this unforgettable drive to life.

The Long Paddock also passes through some of the most character filled villages in Australia. These little townships of between 30 and 70 people provide visitors with a glimpse of life in country communities. Make sure you stop and have a cuppa or a beer in Pretty Pine, Wanganella and Booroorban, where you will be welcomed with a smile and can get a real feel for life in the bush.
