Parks & Gardens
Did you know that the Deniliquin region is home to over 148 beautiful parks, gardens, recreation areas and playgrounds!?
That’s ALOT of picnics in the park and a lot of playgrounds for families to explore whislt staying with us.
One of the most popular is the beautiful Waring Gardens. Established in 1888 the area was set up largely as a Botanic Garden testing a number of trees and shrubs for their suitability in the Deniliquin climate.
Today this park is popular with locals and tourists alike. With an array of plants and trees, lush lawns, friendly ducks to feed, walking tracks, a lagoon which a variety of bird life call home, a kids playground and plenty of seating throughout the park - it’s the perfect spot to simply relax, let the kids burn off some energy or enjoy a picnic lunch.
Some of our favourite things to see and do in the local park's include:
- Try to spot yabbies, small fish, turtles and water rats at McFaull Park lagoon, Civic Place. The lagoon has been developed into an open air classroom to help people learn about the value of wetlands, with interpretive signs and a self-navigable 'wetland walk'.
- Explore Deniliquin’s unique lagoon system on the 1.4km Lagoons to River trail, which curves through the centre of town. You’ll pass through gorgeous parkland including Waring Gardens, Scott’s Park and Brown’s Park. The trails have signage along the way to keep you on track, show distances and highlight key attractions.
-
The Eli Brown Park, also known as Fish Park, is a nature reserve where all aspects of fish can be appreciated. Given the indigenous name ‘Werrpanakata’ meaning fishing place, you’ll be able to appreciate the many species that call this living lagoon home. With many viewing platforms, interpretive signage, seating and a path perfect for bikes or walking - it's a great place to explore with the kids. Top tip: Be sure to bring your camera as you’ll also spy plenty of bird life. The resident pelicans and families of ducks are always a hit with the kids!
